Though retired from professional work I am still active with a number of pro bono projects via social media, typically for community groups who want more involvement in decision making about planning the future of the great city of Sydney which is being subjected to over development that has destroyed the quality of life for many residents and visitors in the past 10 years.
One recent major project for EcoTransit Sydney is opposing the NSW Govenment’s plans for replacing the T3 Bankstown rail line with a so-called “metro’ rail service. In reality it will mean a dramatically poorer service for residents and commuters in the Sydenham-Canterbury-Bankstown area. See also SaveT3.org
My previous major project is working with a group of people in the Parramatta Network who are concerned about the destruction of a lot of historic, heritage buildings in Parramatta, closing down the Power House Museum at Harris Street Ultimo and moving just a small amount of it out to a proposed new museum in the Parramatta CBD on a riverside site, that suffers dramatic floods at least every 10 years. My part of this work is strategising, web site creation and developing campaigns using social media that will attract wider support from local residents or people who work 5 days a week in the Parramatta CBD.
I help manage a large collection of Indigenous paintings, sculptures and photography. This project is Keeping Place where i look after their strategic planning and some of the communications work for a very large collection of urban aboriginal art by Gordon Syron, and other artists collected by Gordon and his wife, photographer Elaine Syron, over the past 30 years
